Hymir
(«Le Sombre») Hymir est un Géant de la mer, le mari de Hrod, qui vit à la l’orée du paradis. Il possède un énorme chaudron convoité par les Dieux pour brasser leur bière. Il serait selon certaines versions le père de Tyr, Dieu de la guerre. D’ailleurs Tyr et Thor furent envoyés par les Dieux pour récupérer le chaudron, Aegir ayant prétexté que ce seul récipient pouvait l’obliger à brasser la bière demandée. Une fois au Palais d’Hymir, la mère de celle-ci les dissimula pour mettre au courant son fils elle-même. Hymir leur offrit à contre-coeur à manger et les convives furent estomaqués de voir Thor avaler deux boeufs entiers! Hymir, le lendemain, les invita à aller pécher et Thor décapita le boeuf Himinrjot pour s’en servir d’appât. Il y eu un incident avec une prise, celle du serpent Jormungandr, et ils ne ramenèrent que deux baleines. Le repas fut mouvementé et bientôt une bagarre éclata, Thor en profitant pour s’éclipser avec le chaudron. Mais Hymir et d’autres Géants de la glace le rattrapèrent, aucun ne survécu au marteau du Dieu...
